Multi-award winning, beautiful seaside Skerries is delighted to announce their sixth annual Skerries Midsummer Festival on the weekend of June 21-23, 2019.
Part of Fáilte Ireland’s ‘Dublin, Surprising By Nature’ and in association with Fingal Tourism, Skerries Midsummer Festival celebrates almost two millennia of strong historic and cultural associations with the surrounding seas, since St Patrick himself first landed and lived on one of Skerries five islands all the way back in 432AD.
The weekend, to include the first east coast Irish Currach Race featuring the Skerries built Currach na Sceiri, as well as paddleboard and kayak tasters with water-sport school Outdoor Dublin, swimming races, sailing displays, on-the-beach sports, sand castle competitions, outdoor cinema movies, and live music featuring foot-stomping bluegrass festival favourites Prison Love, all kicks off with a swanky Black Tie Ball in Skerries Sailing Club where vistas to two sides of Skerries’ unique peninsula allow patrons to enjoy incredible sunsets over the water to the east, and glorious sunrises over the islands to the west.
A beachside festival village of tented vendors, craftspeople and family amusements will be the central focus of the festival, as the Irish Foodie Town finalist’s 10 pubs and 20 restaurants and cafés serve up heaping helpings of hospitality – as well as the obligatory ice cream and chips by the sea!
