If you didn't think summer was already here, there will be no denying it this weekend; not only will there be almost seventeen hours of daylight, but some of them may even be sunny!

More noticeably though will be the return of some popular June Bank Holiday events to their regular spot on the calendar.

Wherever you are in Ireland this weekend, the signs of summer will be everywhere with plenty of fun family activities and events to enjoy, especially for the secondary school students who finish this week.

Below are a selection of some of our favourite events.

1) Women's Mini Marathon

Returning to Dublin to celebrate their 40th Anniversary Event, the VHI Women's Mini Marathon takes place on June 5th.

Over one million women have entered the mini-marathon over the last 35 years raising over €200 million for charities throughout Ireland. The race starts on Fitzwilliam Street Upper at 14:00 and finishes on Baggot Street Lower with plenty of places to get out and encourage all the participants.

2) Hooked on The Sea Festival

Hooked on the Sea 2022 will be running across the Hook Peninsulat his weekend with lots of marine activities on and off the water including paddle boarding, boat trips on the estuary, local produce picnics, foraging, sea-themed children’s events and more. The BBQ will be also fired up at Hook Lighthouse, where there will be games on the lawns and there are reports of Pirates on the horizon with Pirate Pat leading the posse and a very special Traditional Fish and Chip Supper on Sunday night.

3) Moby Dick Festival | Youghal

A weekend of events to welcome you to the seaside town of Youghal, where Melville’s Moby Dick novel was committed to film over 60 years ago . The fun starts on Friday with live music, a free barbecue and games on the beach while other events over the weekend include crazy golf, crab catching, puppet show, sand castle and sand art competition, live music and lots more.

4) Cowboys and Heroes Country Music Americana Festival

The sixth annual Cowboys and Heroes festival will be held on June Bank Holiday Weekend in Drumcoura City featuring a host of the top Irish Country Music stars including
Derek Ryan, Mike Denver, Johnny Brady, Jimmy Buckley, Robert Mizzel, Declan Nerney & lots more!

5) Carrick Carnival

Carrick Carnival is an action-packed five day festival over on the June Bank Holiday every year in Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim. Events this weekend include tKids Fun DAy, Hakuna Matata Acrobatics Show, Dog Show, a Fireworks display on Sunday night and lots, lots more.

6) Innishannon Steam & Vintage Rally

The 25th Innishannon Steam & Vintage Rally is held on Sunday and Monday with thousands of vintage exhibts, dog show, sheep dog trials musical chairs for steam engines, music and more.

7) Cork Harbour Festival | An Rás Mór 

Ocean to City – An Rás Mór on Saturday is Ireland’s largest multi-craft rowing and paddling race, attracting some 500 participants from Ireland, the UK, The Netherlands and beyond. Watch the spectacular fleet of 200 boats as they compete in this challenging race, featuring everything from traditional wooden boats, currachs, gigs, Chinese dragon boats, kayaks and even stand-up paddle boards. There will be free family entertainment, music and food at various vantage points along the race course, including Cobh, Monkstown, Passage West, Blackrock and Cork City.

8) Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival

Music fans from all over the world descend on Ballyshannon to enjoy free open air concerts as well paid performances in the Big Top including Eric Gales, Bernie Marsden, Walter Trout and Band of Friends.

9) Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival

There is no better way to start the summer than the return of Ireland's first and still probably the biggest comedy festival set against the backdrop of Ireland's medieval capital with a brilliant list of acts to keep you laughing over the weekend including Tommy Tiernan, Andrew Maxwell, Kevin McGahern, Julie Jay and many more.

10) North West Clare Agricultural Show

The annual North West Clare agricultural show returns on Sunday to grounds of the Falls Hotel in Ennistymon. The show is packed full of classes for equine and livestock exhibits, home produce, arts and crafts, bonny baby, bale rolling and more.

11) K-Fest

K-FEST returns to its usual slot of the June Bank Holiday for 2022 with Pop-Up Galleries, Craft Fair Saturday, Fairy Trail, Magic Steve, Mad Professor Fun Scientist, Circus Skills,  loads of live music and much more in Killorglin.

12) Rathlin Sound Maritime Festival

The multi-site festival highlighting the stunningly beautiful surroundings of Ballycastle town, Rathlin Island and the waters in between concludes this weekend with The Leader Tall Ship Trips, Sea Safari Tour and North Coast and Glens Artisan Market in Ballycastle and Vikings, Have a go Kayaking, Doggie Dress Up Competition, Raft Race and Regatta on Rathlin as well as lots of live music in both venues.

13) Bloom

Bord Bia Bloom, Ireland's largest and most spectacular gardening event will run from Thursday 2nd June to Monday 6th June 2022, from 9am to 6pm every day, with show gardens, food village, live entertainment, crafts, flowers and family fun. Bloom is the place to be this weekend for garden designers, flower growers, landscapers, plantaholics, garden-furniture makers, food fanatics and anyone who loves to garden

14) Ballymoney Show

The Ballymoney Festival provides two days of fun including livestock judging, food tents with cookery demonstrations and celebrity chefs and entertainment in the form of music, football competitions and tug of war. Not to forget the bonny baby competition, home industries and schools exhibits and an exciting dog show too.

15) Balbriggan Summerfest

Balbriggan Summerfest returns with all the usual favourites The Summerfest Summer Party takes place on Friday 3rd from 19:30-23:00 with market stall, crafts, family fun, live music and a fireworks display while the popular Family Fun Day takes place is on Sunday from 11-6pm with Crazy Golf, Slime Factory, Woolyward's Farm, Magic Show the annual Duck Derby and lots more!
