Description

The Burren in Bloom festival encompasses garden visits, demonstrations, cultural events, family events, informative talks, guided walks and much, much more across the Burren to celebrate the summer blooms and biodiversity of the region.

It is a fundraiser for the Burrenbeo Trust so do support it.

Please note that there is free tea and a scone with local honey for any member of Burrenbeo Trust between 19th-21st May in the Burren Perfumery. 

19th May / Friday

 DEMO*  Burren Flowers & Herbs; the scented inspiration @1-2.30pm with owner Sadie Chowen. Location: Burren Perfumery, Carron. Need to book in advance on Eventbrite €15/€10 for members as limited numbers. This includes free tea and scone with local honey if you are a member of Burrenbeo Trust.
                      
OPEN GARDEN: Garden [email protected] with the Burren Perfumery's gardener, Sarah Casey. Location: Burren Perfumery,  Carron. Pay donations to Burrenbeo Trust on the day.  This includes free tea and scone with local honey if you are a member of Burrenbeo Trust.

TALK: My Life with Trees @8pm with arborist and historian Thomas Pakenham.  Location: Burren College of Art, Ballyvaughan Pay at door €10/€5 for members.

20th May / Saturday

WALK/DEMO*: Catching the light; a photography workshop in the Burren @8am-10am  with photographer Martin Kiely.  Martin will be giving an introduction to Capturing Images of Burren Flowers. Location:  Gortlecka. Need to book in advance on Eventbrite €15/€10 for members as limited numbers. Meeting point will be Gortlecka Cross You need to bring a camera, knee pads/a small mat or a small cushion to sit on.

OPEN GARDEN: Garden walk in an orchid-rich meadow and morning coffee @11am-12.30pm with Terri and Alan Shoosmith.  Location: Rockvale, Tubber. Pay on the day €10/€5 for members.

WALK: On the verge: nature in our community & beyond  ****NOTE Change of Leader @1pm-2.30pm with botanist Dr Stephen Ward.  Location: Ballyvaughan. Meet at 1 pm at the car park opposite the church. Pay on the day €10/€5 for members.

OPEN GARDEN: * Guided garden walk  @3pm-4.30pm with gardener Carl Wright.  Location: Caher Valley Garden, Fanore. Need to book in advance on Eventbrite €10/€5 for members as limited numbers.

FAMILY FUN: * Burren Wild Child – Rockshore fun! @3.30pm with Burrenbeo's Áine Bird.  Location: Tracht Beach. Need to book in advance on Eventbrite €5 per child/Free for family members as limited numbers.
               
POETRY: *A reading with Michael Longley @7pm for wine reception to start at 8pm with acclaimed poet Michael Longley Location: Burren College of Art, Ballyvaughan. Need to book in advance on Eventbrite €15/€10 for members as limited numbers.

21st May / Sunday

WAL- The Rockyshore Marine Walk @8-10am with Dr David McGrath. Location: Flaggy Shore, NewQuay. Pay on the day €10/€5 for members. Wear wellies or waterproof hiking shoes.  Meet outside the NUIG fieldstation at the end of the Flaggy Shore (2km beyond the beach/west on the coast road).

OPEN GARDEN: Garden walk with morning tea @10-11.30am with owner Mark Helmore. Location: Mount Vernon House, NewQuay. Pay on the day €10/€5   for members.This will also include an opportunity to see work by artist Frank Sanford in main house. A donation will be given to the Burrenbeo Trust from any painting sales.  Followed by refreshments.
 
WALK: Foraging for health - hedgerow medicine @11.30am-1pm with Burrenbeo's Brigid Barry.  Location: Newquay. Pay on the day €10/€5 for members.  A beginner's guide to some our most common hedgerow plants and their role as an outdoor pharmacy. 

WALK: A Green Road Farm Walk: Wild flowers and more @2pm-4.30pm with botanist Dr Stephen Ward and farmer John Marrinan.  Location: Clouncloose. Pay on the day €10/€5 for members. Opportunity for tea and scones in John's farmhouse for a donation (suggested €5).

WALK: The Burren by night  - a star gazing walk @9.30pm with Galway Astronomy Club.  Location: Poulnabrone. Pay on the day €10/€5 for members. Bring a torch, binoculars or telescope if you have one. Note: This event will only run if there are clear skies that evening.


POST-EVENT ACTIVITIES

24th May / Wednesday

WALK : A Central Burren Farm: Wildflowers and more @2-5pm with farmer Patrick McCormack.  Location: Glanquin Farmhouse. Pay on the day €10/€5 for members.  Opportunity for tea and scones in the family's farmhouse aka the Fr.Ted house afterwards for an additional donation (suggested €5). High level of fitness needed.

27th May / Saturday

WALK: A Dusk Chorus @7pm with Birdwatch Clare (Tom and Nuala Lynch, John N Murphy, Austin Cooney).  www.clarebirdwatching.com.  Location: Dromore. Pay on the day €10/€5 for members.

28th May  / Sunday

WALK: A Coastal Burren Farm: Wildflowers and more  @2-4pm with ecologist Dr Cilian Roden and farmer Shane Casey.  Location: Fanore. Pay on the day €10/€5  for members.

31st May / Wednesday

WALK: A Lakeshore Burren Farm: Wildflowers and more @2-4pm with botanist Dr Micheline Sheehy Skeffington and farmer Michael Keane.  Location: Muckanagh. Pay on the day €10/€5 for members.

4th June / Sunday

WALK: Herbal Remedies in the Burren @2-4pm with herbalist Dr Dilis Claire.  Location: Slieve Carron Nature Reserve. Pay on the day €10/Free for members.
