This is the 5th year of the Connemara Green Festival and each year it continues to grow and expand.

The main aim of the festival is to raise awareness of the unique ecology of Connemara and raise funds for biodiversity projects and conservation of our local environment.

This year’s theme is ‘‘Craft, culture and wilderness’. This year our biodiversity project is to raise funds for awareness and conservation of the Freshwater Pearl Mussel, which is the rarest invertebrate in Europe with sustainable populations only existing now in Ireland and Scotland.

This mussel is found in the local Dawros river and is under huge threat. The river was a pristine angling river for trout and salmon but has declined in recent years. It is home to Wild Atlantic salmon and is a critical part of the fragile eco system of the river.

The festival will take place from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 October 2019 and is based in Letterfrack village, Connemara, at the foot of Diamond Hill and the Connemara National Park and along the Wild Atlantic Way.

The weekend includes children’s weaving willow workshops, walks with local ecologists and historians, nature & craft workshops, a visit to the community garden, learning about local fauna and flora, outdoor activities, farm, tree and archaeology walks in the Connemara National Park, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and boat trips in Letterfrack Bay. All ages are welcome!
